Aspiritual, mental, emotional and physical detoxification and revitalization program. The fasting program can be done as a Water Fast or a Juice Fast. Fasting programs are prescribed by the physician after assessment. Fasting is based on medical necessity by the physician. Most of the time fasting is incorporated into a healing protocol combined with raw food and juices. When fasting is incorporated into a treatment protocol, both Juice Fasting and Water Fasting are followed by a rebuilding phase with organic live raw foods, juices, coconut water and exercise. Fasting protocols can be customized with a combination of water fasting, juice fasting and raw food days. The regimen is determined by the physician.
Detoxification procedures like water enemas, coffee enemas, infrared sauna, colon hydrotherapy, rebounding etc. can be incorporated during the rebuilding phase (and in juice fasting throughout the fast) to intensify the detoxification process.

Progressive food elimination is recommended. This may be done one week or more prior to the start of the retreat program at the clinic or at home. This preparation will consist of a raw live food diet, juicing, exercise, and journaling. Introspection is important to prepare the mind for change and the successful implementation of new lifestyle habits.

How To Prepare for a Water or Juice Fast
The Pre-Fast Regimen: Eight Days is Recommended for Preparation
- Days 1-3: Avoid meat, fish, fowl, eggs, dairy, grains, legumes, salt and spices. Focus on fruits and vegetables; cooking them is okay.
- Days 4-6: As above, except all foods are eaten raw.
- Days 7-8: Raw fruit and vegetable juices only.
It is also recommended that you meditate and journal on the lifestyle and diet changes you want to make, so as to start your fast with a clear vision.
Following this plan for the eight days before you commence your fast will ease your body into burning fats and detoxifying, and make starting the water fast easier.
During the Fast:
Resting, complete relaxation and contemplation is the main focus of the fast. Secondary activities such as meditating, praying, sun bathing, yoga, drawing, painting, skin brushing, may occur.
Medical support: Mini daily checkups with Dr. Baylac to ascertain progress of the fast.
Other possible activities: Soaking, bathing and swimming in natural warm pools, by the ocean. Nature walks in the jungle or to the crater. Hands-on live food preparation, and continuing lifestyle education.
After the Fast

In the beginning of 2008, I did a twenty-one day fast and silent meditation retreat, plus six days of raw food. I devoted a total of one month to the process. The fast was comprised of seven days on green juice, seven days on water, and seven days on a variety of juices. It was a spiritual fast and general regeneration of body, mind & soul. It was the most challenging and most rewarding experience I have ever had. I went into deeply transformative spaces in body and psyche.
After I had asthma attacks that led to a serious case of bronchitis, I decided to register at the Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center to undergo a supervised water fast. I had experienced an increase in frequency and severity of asthma symptoms in the months leading up to that point, even though I had been on prescribed medications during the few years since the asthma started. In addition, I had chronic sinusitis for many years that required me to always keep with me something with which I could blow my nose. I also had chronic eczema, which was especially bad on my heels.
Looking back, I remember the fast as having been a great experience. I intend to fast again for a shorter period of time in around two years time. Being under such good care as I have been, I would recommend it to any person suffering from any ailment or disease that can be successfully treated through a fast. I have myself benefited greatly from the fast in many ways: even though my anti-bodies have not totally disappeared yet, their level is very low if not normal; I feel much better physically (my Yoga practice has greatly improved – especially my flexibility) and I am seven months pregnant! (fasted for infertility as well as immune disorder)
My forty-nine day detoxification & rejuvenation (thirty-one days on pure water; eighteen on restricted coconut water and pure water)…. There is no real way to describe a fast. Herman Hesse said that the lives of men of action are interesting to relate, but dull to live, while the lives of wasters, idlers and dreamers make terribly drab reading, but for their owners are brimming with unparalleled experiences of inspiration, hope and beauty. Fasting is just like that. Each day was so amazingly different from the previous, so stock full of wonders, but each, in essence, consisted of lying down, drinking water, going to the toilet and sleeping.
