Toxin removal via green juice fast, water fast, sauna & exercise
The methods for toxin-removal, in cases of very high toxicity, that we prefer at Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center, are:
- green juice fast/diet
- water fasting
- FIR sauna
The method that forms the basis for success is a green juice diet, or the “green juice fast”.
The importance of green juices
Fasting extracts old accumulated wastes. In an effort to survive in the absence of food the body looks for stored fat for energy. Stored with the fat are other acid toxins and dead cells which are acidic. The waste products generated during fasting are much more acidic than during normal time.
This means that there is a great risk of losing valuable body alkaline minerals. During the water fast we supply ample amount of alkaline water to offset the effects of the acidification process. On the other hand, the green juice fast alkalinises the body, and other detoxification procedures such as exercise and FIR sauna can be used.
Toxin removal via FIR sauna, exercise
After the basic green juice therapy basis for toxin removal, additional therapies can be considered. E.g. temperature elevation methods.
The FIR sauna and exercise warm up the body, which helps to mobilize toxins more efficiently.
Acid coagulates blood. As a result, capillary vessels get clogged up close to where the acid wastes accumulate deep within your body. This means that even if the blood becomes more alkaline it cannot reach the acidic wastes. For the blood to reach the acid pile quickly, you have to elevate the internal temperature of the body to expand the capillary vessels. Then the warm blood can, not only reach the acid pile but also dissolve it better into the blood because the blood is warmer. Usually, older waste products are surrounded by clogged up capillary vessels. if you can reach waste products that are 10 years old and get rid of them, you are literally getting 20 years younger.
How to elevate internal body temperature
There are several ways to elevate the internal temperature of our body, for increased toxin-removal, after the basic green juice-detox. Here are two, exercise and the FIR sauna.
Exercise provides many benefits such as toning muscles, burning off calories, raising endorphin levels. Another one of the benefits of exercise is to elevate the body’s internal temperature and to expand clogged up capillary vessels in order to suck out old wastes, or fat that you have stored for later use.
Yes, exercise creates more acidic wastes, but for reaching and getting rid of old wastes, there is net gain. if you over-exercise without resting, you create lactic acid, making your blood very acidic. That is why you feel dizzy and faint during exercise. often we hear the term “exercise induced asthma”. A sudden increase of acid in the blood will do that. Drinking alkaline water and green juices will help.
2. The FIR sauna
Sitting in a hot FIR sauna also elevates the body’s internal temperature, and thereby increases waste and toxin removal.
This method of detoxification developed by Mr. Hubbard (Fir Infrared Sauna) is precise protocol documented for mobilizing fat-stored toxins and enhancing their elimination while restoring metabolic balance. The protocol has long been established as safe. Previous case reports, as well as number of non-randomized, controlled studies of exposed workers (including firefighters), demonstrate that detoxification reduces body burdens of PCBs, PBBs, dioxins, various drugs and pesticides with concurrent symptomatic improvement.
Publications over the past two decades also show that this regimen can improve memory, cognitive functions immune parameters, and general physical condition in different study populations.
An independent facility funded by private donations was set up providing emergency workers with this detoxification therapy program without charge. The primary goal of this project was to restore quality of life and job fitness to those exposed to toxic materials at the WTC site.
On September 11, 2001, the attack and collapse of the gigantic World Trade Center Towers caused an enormous release of toxic substances into a densely populated urban environment. Emergency workers were exposed to unprecedented levels of these chemicals and breakdown products during the rescue and clean up efforts. Studies demonstrate a definite link between exposures to airborne pollutants and respiratory disease. The acute complaints of emergency responders were often pulmonary. However, other debilitating health consequences exist.
The number of WTC exposed individuals (more than 500) who have achieved the rehabilitative goals of sauna detoxification therapy is significant. The improvements in self-reported symptoms, an indication of a marked return to wellness, are supported by reduced need for medication along with other confirmed objective measures.

Start using the sauna at 100 degrees F in short 20-minute increments building up a feel for your body’s tolerance. Use less heat if you feel discomfort initially. You will be building up to one hour at 120 degrees F. It is a good idea to take your blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, pulse and weight before and after the first few sessions. If your blood pressure, pulse or respiratory rate increases by 10 points, get out of the sauna for the day. If your temperature goes over 100 degrees, stop for the day. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, you can just open the door and towel off, cool down for a few seconds and then close the door again. Remember to keep drying off the sweat with a towel. Have your water bottle handy and keep drinking to stay hydrated.
You must stop at any time that you experience headache, nausea, fast heart rate, weakness, irregular heart rate, and shortness of breath, dizziness, disorientation, muscle cramps, muscle spasms or twitching or any adverse symptom. Use a tepid shower, not cold, to cool down slowly without shocking the system.
The far infrared sauna wavelength penetrates 1-½ inches in the body, which generally enables chemicals to come directly out of the subcutaneous fat storage sites into the sweat avoiding the symptoms that can occur when such toxins enter the bloodstream. However, if you have had severe poisonings that may create withdrawal symptoms, go at a slower pace. This includes drugs like cocaine or heroin.
If you are pregnant, have metal parts in your body, take important medications whose levels should not change, such as insulin, seizure or heart medications, be sure to tell the supervising physician.
Mandatory before each sauna session totaling an hour is to drink a minimum of 1 – 2 quarts of water (alkaline water is the best). You will also be prescribed certain sauna replenishment nutrients especially for your body.
